The City of Edmonton recently announced the conversion of 46 temporary positions to permanent full time positions in the Waste Services branch.
This change will greatly improve conditions for those 46 CUPE members who were working from contract to contract for years, instead of being permanent City employees.
CUPE 30 has been advocating for this move and is glad to see the City is creating these positions. Temporary positions do not enjoy the same benefits and security that permanent ones do, so this change means a lot to these members. President Eric Lewis has been lobbying Council for this change at the City and applauds Waste Services for this move.
As a Coalition, we extend congratulations to those 46 members and look forward to this becoming a trend that spreads to other areas of the City as well!
