About CECU

The Coalition of Edmonton Civic Unions (CECU) is an organization of unions working together to share information, coordinate action, support one another, and act to ensure the rights of all members are protected.

We have five member unions, each representing members at the City of Edmonton.

In addition to the City of Edmonton, our members are represented at EPCOR, Edmonton Public Libraries, Capital Power, Telus World of Science, St. Albert Transit, and other employers.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 569

Civic Service Union 52

Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 30

Edmonton Fire Fighters’ Union Local 209

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1007

The CECU formed in 1993

When the civic union leaders recognized that by working together and sharing information, we could fight for better working conditions for all our members at the City of Edmonton. Since then, the member unions have continued to meet regularly and work on behalf of all our members.

In 1996, the CECU hired a full-time employee to carry out the day-to-day operations of the organization. This Liaison Representative works to improve communication between the unions, as well as acts as a presence at City Hall, observing City Council and helping the unions advocate to Council about issues of importance to their members.
